Inicialmente chamada de “Cidade Livre”, a localidade surgiu em 1956 com a chegada dos “candangos” para a construção da nova Capital. O local funcionava como um centro comercial para a prestação de serviços e, ainda, recreativo, servindo a todos. As lojas não pagavam impostos, motivo esse, segundo relatos, da origem do nome “Cidade Livre”.
